Special Exhibits at Museum For A Rainy Day are commissioned, immersive works created specifically for a real-time, spatial museum environment.
They are not traditional image galleries. They are not video screenings adapted for VR. They are authored experiences.
What We Mean by a Special Exhibit
A Special Exhibit is a self-contained digital environment designed to be experienced inside the Museum.
It may include:
- spatially arranged artworks,
- animated or interactive elements,
- sound, light, and movement,
- narrative or conceptual progression,
- or forms that do not fit within a conventional gallery structure.
Each Special Exhibit is built as a real-time project, not a passive asset.
Commissioned Work and Costs
Special Exhibits are commissioned works.
While the artist fee may be modest or symbolic relative to commercial production budgets, it represents a formal commitment and recognition of authorship.
Producing a Special Exhibit involves serious costs beyond the artist’s own contribution, including:
- technical artist fees,
- development and optimization,
- platform integration across devices,
- testing and quality assurance,
- curatorial and production oversight,
- long-term maintenance and archiving.
For this reason, Special Exhibits are undertaken selectively and deliberately.
This is not speculative work. This is not unpaid exposure. This is a committed production process.
Submission Through GROW
All proposals for Special Exhibits will be submitted through GROW.
GROW is used to:
- authenticate artists,
- receive and review proposals,
- evaluate materials for curatorial and technical feasibility,
- and initiate the production process if a proposal is selected.
Submitting a proposal through GROW does not guarantee selection, but it is the required entry point for consideration.
What We Will Be Looking For
We are interested in artists who:
- think spatially, temporally, or experientially,
- are open to real-time environments as a medium,
- are willing to work within technical constraints,
- understand that the exhibition itself is the artwork.
We are not looking for:
- simple ports of existing exhibitions without adaptation,
- works that rely solely on linear playback,
- pieces that cannot exist meaningfully as a real-time environment.
Commitment and Process
Special Exhibits are developed through a structured process:
- concept discussion and feasibility review,
- agreement on scope and collaboration model,
- commissioned production phase,
- technical integration and testing,
- exhibition within the Museum.
This process requires time, communication, and mutual trust.
In Short
Special Exhibits are:
- immersive,
- commissioned,
- real-time,
- artist-led and technically supported,
- submitted and reviewed through GROW.
Special Exhibits are developed and presented as part of the Museum’s ongoing curatorial program.
